The John Howard Society of Okanagan & Kootenay provides programs for people involved in the criminal justice system, including pre-release planning, probation support, transitional housing, and alternatives to the court system. We work with correctional staff, probation officers, and community partners to support reintegration and reduce reoffending.

Frequently Asked Questions About Justice Services in Okanagan & Kootenay.

Restorative justice brings together the person who caused harm, the person affected, and community members to address the harm and find a resolution. The focus is on accountability and repair rather than punishment. It is an alternative to the formal court process.

No. All referrals must come from BC Community Corrections (probation officers).

This program is often an alternative to the formal justice system. If you complete the program successfully, you may avoid court involvement. Referrals come from the Central Okanagan RCMP or Crown Counsel.

The outreach worker meets with people before they are released from the Okanagan Correctional Centre to help arrange housing and connect them with services in their home community.

It may take up to two weeks to receive a referral from RCMP or Crown Counsel.
